Two major educational groups recently declared that “in education, employment, income, health, longevity, and other basic measures of individual and social well-being, gaps persist – and in some cases are widening – between members of minority groups and majority population,” and that “if we allow these disparities to continue, the United States inevitably will suffer compromised quality of life and a lower standard of living.”

These issues may seem unrelated to quality and productivity – until one considers the following demographic factors:

  • For the first time in history, white males now comprise less than a 46% minority in the workforce
  • U.S. Department of Labor statistics predict that 75% of those entering the workforce in the next generation will be minorities and women
  • Millions fewer will be in the labor force in 2025 than in 2020
  • Culturally diverse newcomers in the workforce will be thrust against a previously successful monocultural management system
